Dr. Gangatharan N,HOD obtained his Bachelor’s Degree in Electronics and Communication Engineering in 1988 and Master’s Degree in Microwave and Optical Engineering in 1990, both from Madurai Kamaraj University. He earned Master’s degree in Computer Science and Engineering from Manonmaniam Sundaranar University, Tirunelveli, in 1997, followed by an MBA Degree in Finance and Marketing from Madurai Kamaraj University in 1999. He received his Doctoral Degree in Engineering from Multimedia University, Malaysia, in 2007

Dr. N. Gangatharan is a distinguished academician, researcher, and educational administrator with extensive experience in engineering education, academic leadership, research, and international academic and professional engagements. He has been serving as Professor and Head of the Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering at R.M.K. College of Engineering and Technology (RMKCET) since September 2010.


Academic Qualifications


Dr. Gangatharan obtained his Bachelor’s Degree in Electronics and Communication Engineering in 1988 and Master’s Degree in Microwave and Optical Engineering in 1990, both from Madurai Kamaraj University. He subsequently earned a Master’s Degree in Computer Science and Engineering from Manonmaniam Sundaranar University, Tirunelveli, in 1997, followed by an MBA in Finance and Marketing from Madurai Kamaraj University in 1999. He received his Doctoral Degree in Engineering from Multimedia University, Malaysia, in 2007.


Academic and International Experience


Dr. Gangatharan began his academic career at Indian Engineering College in 1988, where he held several academic and administrative positions and served as Principal from 1997 to 2001. He subsequently served as a faculty member in the Faculty of Engineering, Multimedia University, Malaysia, from 2001 to 2005, followed by his tenure at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM), Malaysia, from 2005 to 2006.

From January 2007 to January 2009, he served as Associate Professor, Faculty of Engineering, Kigali Institute of Science and Technology (KIST), Rwanda. He later served as an ICT Consultant/Expert at the Rwanda Utilities Regulatory Agency (RURA) from February 2009 to September 2010.

His extensive international experience in Malaysia and Rwanda has enriched his academic and professional perspective and strengthened his expertise in engineering education, technology, administration, and industry-oriented initiatives.


Research and Professional Contributions


Dr. Gangatharan has published more than 60 research papers in reputed international and national journals and conference proceedings. He has successfully completed a MODROB project funded by AICTE with a grant of ₹20 lakhs. During his tenure in Rwanda, he also led and successfully completed three World Bank-funded projects, demonstrating his ability to manage and deliver large-scale, externally funded initiatives.

His professional interests encompass Electronics and Communication Engineering, Microwave and Optical Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering, ICT, and emerging technologies, with a strong emphasis on technology-enabled education and industry-oriented applications.

His contributions to academia, administration, and professional service have been recognized through several prestigious awards, including:

  • Distinguished Professional Service Award – Rwanda Utilities Regulatory Agency (RURA), Rwanda, 2010
  • Man Engineer Award – IET CLN, 2014
  • Best Administrator Award – Dr. Kalam Educational Trust for Tribal, Chennai, 2018

Professional Affiliations and Research Guidance


Dr. Gangatharan is a Fellow of the Institution of Engineers (India), Senior Member of IEEE, and Life Member of ISTE. He is an approved Ph.D. supervisor for Anna University and other universities. Under his guidance, four research scholars have successfully completed their Ph.D. degrees, while three research scholars are currently pursuing their doctoral research.
