The awareness session on ban of one time use Plastics was conducted at our college campus on 12th January 2019. The meeting started off in an auspicious note with Tamil Thaai Vaazhthu song. Dr. Geetha Balachandar, Academic Coordinator welcomed the gathering. Our Principal Dr. T. Rengaraja, during his inaugural address, stressed the need for the protection of our environment and water conservation. Mr. K. Sudhakar, Faculty in the Department of Science and Humanities, gave a wonderful introduction to the need for the ban of one time use and throwaway plastics. He highlighted how the environmental degradation has impacted our everyday lives due to the usage of one time use Plastics. He was emphatic on avoiding non-biodegradable wastage in our daily activities. He explained the various types of plastics and demonstrated the differences that exist between various types.
Ms. Jothilakshmi, Faculty in the Department of Science and Humanities, explained the ways and means to avoid the usage of one time use and throwaway plastics and also clarified the benefits of such humanitarian activities. Both students and faculty members took oath and reaffirmed their faith in avoiding one time use and throwaway plastics. Paper bags prepared by our student volunteers were distributed to all the participants.
The meeting concluded with lively interactions from the student as well as faculty participants. Mr. K. Gunalan, NSS and YRC Coordinator of the institution, proposed vote of thanks and the session got concluded with major takeaway by both the students and faculty members.
The International Yoga Day was celebrated with great fervor today (21st June 2018) in our college premises. More than 100 faculty members enthusiastically registered themselves for an active participation in the yoga day celebration. The meeting started with prayer song and welcome address by Dr. Geetha Balachandar, Academic Coordinator.
The Principal, Dr. T. Rangaraja, in his presidential address, emphasized the need for practicing Yoga in our day today routine life. He explained the strong connection with mind, body and soul and hinted at the benefits of yoga practice to lead a stress free life. The Vice Principal, Dr. S. Bhagavathi Perumal, in his felicitation, drew a beautiful analogy between music and yoga and explained how the symphony of life can be enjoyed by connecting the rhythm of body with soulful yoga practice. The audience was enthralled to hear and visualize the demo of Ms. Maheswari, Data Entry Operator who has undergone formal yoga training by Government of India. The program concluded with vote of thanks.
Our Principal, left no stone unturned, in guiding our NSS unit to actively participate and contribute towards the successful conduct of blood donation camp. The National Social Service unit of our college continues to strive hard to contribute towards the welfare of the society. As a part of its ongoing activities, the NSS unit of our college organized a blood donation camp in collaboration with Right Hospitals (P) Ltd, Chennai, on 2nd February 2018. After a formal inaugural function, the blood donation camp started off with an enthusiastic participation of blood donors. It was well coordinated by student and staff volunteers. A record turnout of 306 blood donors (both staff and students) amused the organizers. An amazing total of 206 units of blood were collected. The blood donors were given juice and biscuits after donating the blood in order to reenergize themselves. The blood donors were duly recognized with a blood donation certificate issued by Right Hospitals (P) Ltd, Chennai. The medical team was provided with lunch and evening tea and snacks. The camp concluded at around 5.30 p.m. The Hospital profoundly thanked the NSS unit of our college for their excellent arrangements and a noble contribution towards a great cause.
National Service Scheme (NSS) unit of our college, a dream venture for every educational institution, became a reality with generous support and encouragement from our most respected founder-chairman Shri. R.S.Munirathinam and our beloved Vice-Chairman Mr.R.M.Kishore. Our principal, Dr.T.Rangaraja, motivated both staff and students of our college to enthusiastically enroll and participate in various activities under the purview of NSS unit. With the invocation song by First year students of our college, the inaugural function of our NSS unit got off to an auspicious start on 23rd September 2017. Mr. K. Gunalan, NSS Coordinator of RMKCET, welcomed the gathering. Mr. Melvin Fernando, Senior Manager – Facilities, Infosys Mahindra City Campus, Chennai, participated as Chief Guest and added glitters to the inaugural function. Dr. S. Bhagavathi Perumal, Vice Principal, RMKCET presided over the function and delivered the presidential address. In his address, he stressed the need for the active involvement of the students in the social development activities and highlighted the role of students in such social service forums. The chief guest congratulated the college faculty and students in realizing the goal of establishing the National Service Scheme unit at our college. He highlighted the need for promoting activities that ensure rural development and bringing up students’ involvement in such activities that help in their overall development. Our NSS unit started off their activity by promoting the ecological balance of our area by preparing seed balls (500 numbers) and distributing the same to students and other stakeholders of our institution. This activity was well received by student community as well as by teaching and non teaching fraternity of our institution. Dr. J. Prakash, Coordinator of Eco-Club of RMKCET proposed vote of thanks. Everyone thanked the organizers to have provided a soul filling experience through this inaugural function.
