About the Department (Artificial Intelligence and Data Science)

The Department of Artificial Intelligence and Data Science, started in the academic year 2020-21 with an intake of 60 students and further it has been increased to the intake of 120 students in the academic year 2022-23. The Department has always been on a high growth path since its inception with Cognizant as its knowledge partner to offer an industry relevant program. The Department has excellent infrastructure and instructional facilities.


CURRICULUM ENRICHMENT: The complete curriculum and the syllabus are designed in line with the rapidly changing industry landscape in the era of Artificial Intelligence and Data Science. Course contents are developed by our Faculties along with domain experts from Cognizant and distinguished academia. Cognizant being our knowledge partner provides 40% of the curriculum requirements. The course delivers in-demand skills that make the students excel and build a dynamic career. Courses from Computer Science and Engineering and Artificial Intelligence and Data Science are covered respectively. In 2024 Batch, 25 students and in 2025 Batch, 34 students are placed in our Knowledge partner.


FACULTY STRENGTH: The Department has well qualified; dedicated and highly experienced faculties(Two third are either Doctorates or pursuing their Ph.D.) specialized in Artificial Intelligence, Cloud Computing, Big Data Analytics, NLP, Generative AI, machine learning, Data science etc. Our faculties are trained in digital teaching process with personalized mentoring and care with industries like Zoho, Virtusa, Cognizant Technology Solutions, Wipro Technologies etc. and received appreciation for excellent on-campus collaboration. Faculty members are trained by Industries to deliver the content as per Industry expectations to nurture the student’s technical skills. Our faculty members have filed Patents for their innovative ideas and are active researchers publishing their Research papers in Web of Science, SCI and Scopus Indexed Journals and various International and National Conferences. Some of them have contributed in Book Chapters and Textbooks as well. All our faculty members regularly enrol for FDPs, Mooc Courses like NPTEL, SWAYAM, Course era etc. and thereby enhance their teaching and research skills.


The Department is consistently producing very good academic results in the End Semester Examinations. Students are actively participating in Centers of Excellence (CoE) co-sponsored by top IT MNCs. The students are actively involved in Co-curricular (CSI, CSEA) and Extra Curricular (Sports and Social) activities throughout the year. Our department facilitates Technology enabled learning and students are actively participating in NPTEL and Coding/ Project competitions across the country.


Mr. Harsha Vardhan V of 2020-2024 batch added laurel to the Department by getting placed at M/s. HONDA R&D Co. Ltd., Japan with a salary package of 42.28 LPA. A batch of six members(Inukurthi Dileep, Manoj Kumar Reddy, Vasanth R, Divya J, Haritha R, Gayathri Thejusee under the guidance of Dr. Maria Michael Visuvasam) from our dept got selected as one of the finalist teams of the Smart India Hackathon. Mr. Jemanus Alan JK and Ms. Akalya A of II year, R N Sharavana Kumar and Narayanan P of III year has secured Elite + Gold certificate in NPTEL. Ms. Aswini and team secured First Prize and received 1 lakh in the Tamil Nadu Police Hackathon organized by the Cyber Crime wing, Chennai.


PLACEMENT ACTIVITIES: From the First year onwards, Value Added Courses and Placement Training activities are given to the students by Expert trainers for skill enrichment. Guest lectures are arranged frequently with eminent professors from reputed organizations, research scientists and industrial experts to give the students an insight of cutting edge technologies. Besides academics, our students excel in sports and games by winning prizes in the events organized by other universities and colleges.


The Training and Placement Cell organizes various training programs with renowned expert trainers from industries and multinational companies to improve the oral, written and aptitude skills of the students which pave way to get hired by leading core and IT industries. In addition to these trainings, the Centres of Excellence established by the Department play a vital role in providing stream specific training to our students. More than 90% who register for placement secure placement in reputed MNCs. The Central and Department libraries have good collection of around 5000 volumes of Textbooks and Reference books exclusively for AI&DS Department. IEEE ASPP Journals and a good number of printed National Journals are subscribed to promote research culture.


PROFESSIONAL SOCIETIES & STUDENTS CLUB ACTIVITIES:

Co-curricular and Extra-curricular talents showcased through Department Student’s Association and various Student Clubs right from First Year. Various activities are organized by the AI&DS Students Association and The Institution of Engineers (IEI) Student Chapter to enrich their learning experience. Students are also part of Indian Society for Technical Education (ISTE) Students Chapter. The Department has organized an attractive number of sponsored events like Conferences, Symposia, Training Programmes and Workshops through the Student Chapters.


MINI PROJECT: Inter Department and Intra Department Mini Project Contests are being organized every year to strengthen the understanding of fundamentals through effective application of theoretical concepts. Technical discussion platforms are provided to students for sharing their knowledge through Inter-College competitions.

  • Engineering Knowledge: Apply knowledge of mathematics, science, engineering fundamentals and an engineering specialization to the solution of complex engineering problems.
